Because there are so many different variations of lilies, it’s sometimes hard to know what the exact meaning and purpose they have.

Easter Lily

Popular during the spring, the white petals of the Easter lily symbolize hope, innocence, rebirth and peace. The Easter lily is specifically associated with Jesus’ resurrection. The Easter lily goes by many other names, including the Trumpet Lily, the Bermuda lily and Jacob’s Tears.

White Lily

The white lily specifically means purity. It’s also a popular funeral lily; it can symbolize innocence and purity regained as the soul passes on to Heaven.

Peruvian Lilies

The bright shades of the Peruvian lily symbolize friendship and devotion. Also known as alstroemeria, these lilies are great for a playful bouquet.

Stargazer Lilies

Stargazer lilies do double duty depending on their color. If you want to express prosperity and wealth, put together an arrangement with any of the brilliant colors for which stargazers are known. But if sympathy, apology or purity is the message you hope to send, go with the plain white stargazer.

Lily of the Valley

This sweet flower is a great gift to give on a 2nd wedding anniversary. They symbolize the completeness of a relationship, humility and devotion.

Lilies are known to be the May birth flower, and the 30th wedding anniversary flower.
